What slip testing actually measures
Pendulum slip testing is the recognised method for measuring how slippery a floor is. A calibrated pendulum swings a rubber slider across your surface — simulating a heel strike — to produce a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) in both wet and dry conditions.
It’s carried out to BS 7976-2 / BS EN 16165 and UK Slip Resistance Group (UKSRG) guidelines, and recognised by HSENI. The result is an objective, court-defensible number — not a guess — that proves whether your floor meets accepted safety thresholds.

What is pendulum slip testing?
It’s an on-site floor safety test that measures slip resistance. A calibrated pendulum swings a rubber slider across the floor to produce a Pendulum Test Value (PTV). It’s the recognised method and is carried out to BS 7976-2 / BS EN 16165 and UKSRG guidelines.
What PTV score is considered safe?
A wet PTV of 36 or above is treated as low slip risk, 25–35 is moderate, and 24 or below is high risk. We test in both wet and dry conditions and report your floor against these HSENI and UKSRG thresholds.
Do you cover all of Belfast and Northern Ireland?

Is the test disruptive, and how long does it take?
No — each test covers roughly one square metre and takes only a few minutes once set up. The number of tests depends on how many different surfaces you want assessed.
Are your reports accepted for HSENI, insurance and court?
Yes. Surface Performance is a UKAS-accredited laboratory testing to BS 7976. Independent, accredited PTV results are recognised by HSENI and the UKSRG and accepted as credible evidence in insurance and civil claims.
